Fake (SPOOF) Calls
The Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure has received multiple reports from our licensees about a potential scam. The caller states they are with the Oklahoma Medical Board and the caller ID even shows the call originating from the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure & Supervision. The caller tells the licensee there is a problem with their license and it may be suspended.*
If in doubt, please hang up and call the Board directly. Board staff is aware of these types of calls and will understand your need to verify their identity. Similar calls have also occurred where the caller says they are with the Drug Enforcement Administration, with caller ID showing the call originating from the DEA.
IN ANY CASE, Please do not give out any personal information (SSN, cell number, personal address, etc.) to ANY individuals.
*It is possible that a staff member from the Medical Board would call and inquire about something, but never to give notice of the suspension of a license

Updated Online Training on Pain and Opioid Management

In partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS), the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (OUHSC) and the OU-TU School of Community Medicine have created a comprehensive six-module CME program called Do No Harm (DNH) 2.0: Putting Safer Pain Management Into Practice.
The University of Oklahoma Office of Continuing Professional Development is providing the following types of credit:
Module 1 of this program provides an overview of the requirements of Oklahoma Senate Bill 1446 and meets the one-hour Opioid CME training requirement.
Taking all 6 modules satisfies 3.5 hours of the required for treatment and management of patients required for DEA renewal.
The training is delivered on the ODMHSAS Learning System with self-assessment questions. There is no cost to take the training. At the conclusion of each module, you will be provided the opportunity to transfer to the OU CloudCMETM website to register, complete a post-test and evaluation of each module and claim your credit at no cost.

The passing standard on each of the post tests is 80%. A learner may take the test up to three (3) times. Once you pass the test and complete the evaluation you will be able to print your certificate and/or transcript.

Microsoft recently started including a “Copilot” Icon (pictured at left) as part of their Edge browser to promote their so-called Artificial Intelligence capabilities. It is normally located in the upper-right hand side of the browser window. You can visit any webpage, then click on the Copilot icon and it will generate what it believes to be relevant and accurate information on the right side of the browser window.
Please be aware that information in the window that opens when you click on the Copilot icon is not coming from the medical board. It is Microsoft’s interpretation of certain words and phrases on the website and often erroneous conclusions that they draw from them. We have no control over the information Microsoft chooses to create and cannot be held responsible for that content. Inappropriate Use of Antipsychotic Medications
And
Erroneous Diagnosis of Schizophrenia in Nursing Homes
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are responsible for the oversight and health and safety of nursing home residents. Over the past decade, through the work of the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care, CMS has been monitoring antipsychotic medication use in nursing homes. Though steps have been taken to reduce the use of these drugs, there continue to be concerns that nursing home residents may be inappropriately prescribed antipsychotic medications due to being erroneously diagnosed and coded as having schizophrenia;
To increase our focus on this issue, CMS recently announced they will be conducting off-site nursing home audits. If the audit reveals a pattern of inaccurate coding and if there are instances where a practitioner has not followed professionals’ standards of practice for diagnosing individuals and prescribing medications, we believe these practitioners should be referred to their respective state medical boards for investigation.

A new Oklahoma statute related to perinatal mental health goes into effect November 1, 2019. This statute, from enrolled SB 419, requires Oklahoma hospitals and licensed health care providers to educate and screen their patients for perinatal mental health disorders.
